While the sacred city of Ayodhya marks the glorious beginning of Bhagwan Shri Ram’s earthly journey, it is on the soil of Sri Lanka where the deepest spiritual ideals of righteousness (Dharma), unyielding devotion (Bhakti), and feminine majesty (Nari Shakti) reached their supreme fulfillment.
Under the noble aegis of the Sanatani Ganga Foundation, the upcoming Sita Utsav (Sitotsav) Sri Lanka Yatra is
conceived not merely as a pilgrimage, but as a historic spiritual movement. This sacred initiative aims to bridge historical
continuity, rekindle ancient pilgrimage routes, and project Bharat’s eternal values to the world stage.
The Sacred Geography: Why Lanka Holds the Key
- To fully comprehend the divine character of Mata Sita and Lord Shri Ram, one must look toward the sacred sites of Sri
Lanka. It was in Lanka that Mata Sita transformed a period of intense trial and confinement into an eternal testament of unyielding dignity, spiritual strength, and self-respect. - For nearly 10-months, surrounded by hostile forces in Ashok Vatika, Mata Sita refused to compromise her honour or principles. Her steadfastness serves as a timeless beacon for humanity, illustrating that true power resides in character and devotion. The Sita Utsav seeks to pay homage to this sacred land and revive the holy sites associated with her penance, including: Ashok Vatika (Hagalla Botanical Garden/Seetha Eliya): The revered site of Mata Sita’s captivity and her historic reunion with Bhagwan Hanuman Ji.
Seetha Amman Temple
The holy shrine marking the stream where Mata Sita bathed and prayed daily to Lord Ram.
Divurumpola: The sacred site associated with the Agni Pariksha, symbolizing purity and unblemished truth.
Sri Vibhishana Temple (Kelaniya): The shrine honoring Vibhishana, exemplifying the triumph of righteousness over
tyranny.
Major Highlights of the Sita Utsav
The pilgrimage will bring together distinguished spiritual leaders, Vedic scholars, and devotees from across the nation to perform grand rituals and cultural observances on Sri Lankan soil: Twelve Jyotirlinga Priests & Sacred Rudrabhishek Revered priests from the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Bharat, alongside Acharya Shri Pawan Tripathi Ji (Treasurer, Shri
Siddhivinayak Temple, Mumbai), will conduct a magnificent Rudrabhishek. This sacred ceremony unites the divine energies of Lord Shiva and Lord Ram in spiritual harmony.
Grand Deepotsav at Ashok Vatika
Thousands of traditional earthen lamps will illuminate Ashok Vatika, offering a glowing tribute of devotion, hope, and light
over darkness.
“Run for Sita” – Awakening Feminine Empowerment: Under the guidance of Arjuna Awardee Sunita Godara Ji, a symbolic awareness walk and run will be organized to champion the message of Mata Sita’s strength, dignity, and women’s empowerment globally.
Participating in the Sacred Yajna: A Divine Privilege
A pilgrimage of this monumental scope—transporting two hundred devout Yatris, organizing Vedic rituals across multiple
sacred grounds, offering daily Annadaanam (sacred meals), and creating cultural discourses—is a collective spiritual duty (Yajna) of the entire Sanatan community.
In ancient traditions, participating in a holy Yatra is fulfilled in two equally revered ways: through Tan-Man (physical
participation as a pilgrim) and through Dhan & Sewa (enabling and supporting the sacred cause).
While a select group of pilgrims physically walks the sacred grounds, every devotee who contributes to the nourishment, logistics, and spiritual offerings shares equally in the divine merit (Punya) of the Yatra.
