The curtains have officially closed on one of India’s most ambitious sporting and social initiatives: the Gangjyot Marathon 2026 and Skating initiative, popularly known as “Run for Maa Ganga.” Organized by the Sanatani Ganga Foundation, this monumental 22-day journey concluded with a spirit of jubilation, marking a significant victory for both the athletes involved and the environmental cause they championed.
From the starting line in the serene heights of Gangotri to the final destination Ganga Sagar, Patna, Bihar, the marathon was a vibrant display of endurance and purpose. A unique highlight of this year’s event was the seamless integration of skating athletes alongside traditional runners. This blend of speed and stamina created a dynamic spectacle along the riverbanks, symbolizing a modern India moving in harmony with its ancient heritage.
To foster a spirit of excellence and maintain high energy throughout the grueling 1,654km Route, the foundation introduced the Daily Run Challenge. This 10km competitive segment became a focal point of excitement for the participants. Each day, the fastest feet — and wheels — were rewarded for their grit: the first-place winner, Sam Goswami, and his team secured a prize of Rs 25,000, while the runner-up and third-place finishers were awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

These incentives did more than just reward speed; they celebrated the daily dedication of athletes who treated every kilometer as a commitment to the cause.
However, for the participants, the true reward was the experience itself. Athletes from across the country reported having an amazing time, building bonds of camaraderie that transcended the competition. Between the morning sprints and the evening rests, these athletes transformed into ambassadors of change.
They effectively spread vital awareness regarding the ecological health of Maa Ganga, the urgency of water conservation, and the importance of a drug-free lifestyle for the nation’s youth.
As the marathon concluded on March 31st, it left behind a trail of inspired communities and a strengthened resolve to protect our environment. Under the visionary leadership of Captain Praveen Kumar, the Gangjyot Marathon has proven that when sports and spirituality converge, the path to a cleaner, healthier future becomes a race we can all win.
